Why do you think Mediatek is bad?
There is always lots of talk surrounding the credibility and performance of Mediatek processors. Over the years, especially recently, Mediatek has managed to brilliantly prove to the naysayers that their chipsets are actually good, some even better than certain rival brands. So, no, my answer to this frequently asked question is that I do not think Mediatek is bad at all.
For all the people asking if Mediatek is a bad processor to consider, I think it’s not fair to say Mediatek or any other brand is bad before knowing all the information about it. Like I said, I have seen that a lot of people make a point to bash Mediatek every chance they get. If you are someone who prefers smartphones powered by Qualcomm processors, well that’s your choice and you’re entitled to it. But hating one brand only because you love a rival brand is frankly absurd. The major aspect of Mediatek that differentiates it from its rivals is that it focuses on providing consumers with efficient as well as affordable products multiplying its accessibility to the masses. And this very reason, sometimes acts like a double edged sword, because most people with incomplete knowledge assume that anything which costs more is naturally better than an alternative that may be more cost effective. This preconceived notion of there being a problem with Mediatek just because it is more affordable than others is not fair. I think you should check all he facts and then make an informed decision. Mediatek is known to be the 4th largest fabless semiconductor manufacturer in the world so there has to be a reason so many smartphone companies choose mediatek chipsets to power their devices. Just dismissing the entire company does not make sense. Reports said that MediaTek overtook Qualcomm in Q3 2020, to become the biggest chipset supplier for smartphones. I think the main issue is price because mediatek processors are much more affordable than other rival chipsets. So because of this reason a lot many people assume that anything which costs more is naturally better than an alternative that may be more cost effective.
Mediatek is one of the fastest growing organisations in the world, with its chipsets powering over 1.5 billion devices throughout a year. Various smartphones belonging to well-known brands are powered by MediaTek chips. These include- OPPO, Realme, Vivo, LG and many others. I think especially with the Helio series of chipsets from the brand that are chiefly used for 4G smartphones, its popularity has increased a lot more. The Helio G series of processors from Mediatek focuses on 4G affordable gaming and makes it accessible to masses. I know there are a lot of takers when it comes to budget gaming without compromising on performance, and the G series chipsets offer exactly that.
As a gaming enthusiast, I also think that if you can get a Realme or a Redmi smartphone under 10k-12k then that is far better than shelling out big bucks just to have another chipset in the phone. There are so many features in the G series that boost the overall as well as gaming experience with refresh rates, rapid sensing touchscreens, enhancing smartphone and internet connection. New Helio G88 and Helio G96 chipsets have been added to the ever-expanding series which make it even more amazing. Similarly, the Dimensity series focuses on 5G. The very recent addition of a brand new 4-nm Dimensity 9000 SoC which is a proper flagship chipset and the first to be design using TSMC’s 4nm process, is brilliant and does very well in benchmarks beating even high-end Qualcomm chipsets.
I think before listening to antis and other brand loyalists, it is best to check and research on your own and see facts to conclude which is good and which is bad. It is always better to trust your own instincts and research skills. Yes, you also look up reviews and talk to people who have used the processors themselves to get an even better idea but I think you’re under the impression that Mediatek processors are bad simply because some people used to say that, I would just tell you that the brand has a come a long way from it initial days and is doing better than ever. So, try it yourself first.
