The Redmi 9 as a whole is a pretty decent phone in the mobile market and comes with a good set of specifications in its possession. This phone is the latest to join the bandwagon of the various smartphones by Xiaomi in the market, also as the successor of the Redmi 8 smartphone that was launched by Xiaomi last year.

Let’s look at the design of the phone. The Redmi 9 has a waterdrop-style display and features a 6.53-inch HD+ (720x1,600 pixels) Dot View display with an aspect ratio of 20:9. The phone is available in three colour variants of Carbon Black, Sky Blue, and Sporty Orange. The Redmi 9 comes packed with a big 5,000mAh battery that supports fast charging. The battery is a decent asset and allows long and sufficient hours of backup. The battery is also one of the highlights of the phone and does elevate the overall appeal of this budget phone. However, my main highlights would be:

Storage: The Redmi 9 is marked at a starting price of Rs. 8,999 for the 64GB storage variant, while the 128GB storage option comes at a price of Rs. 9,999. This is a huge deal because a smartphone with a 128GB storage option available only under 10k is not at all a common happening. Redmi has stolen the show with this trick. Both the storage variants are expandable up to 512GB via a microSD card with a dedicated slot.

Performance: The Redmi 9 is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio G35 processor with 4GB of RAM. The Helio G35 is MediaTek’s newest addition to its Gseries chipset family and offers a decent gaming experience and overall impressive performance. The chipset employs MediaTek’s in-house HyperEngine game technology for lag-free gameplay and vivid visuals. The Redmi 9 smartphone runs on Android 10 with MIUI 12 on top. Although the G35 is primarily a gaming chipset it also provides a really efficient overall performance for the smartphone.

Camera: In camera options, the Redmi 9 comes with a dual-camera setup at the rear which includes a 13-megapixel primary sensor and another 2-megapixel secondary depth sensor. For selfies, the phone comes with a 5- megapixel front camera for all your social media clicks. Although most phones have started boasting of quad-camera setup, it has become quite dull and each phone looks the same as the next in design because of that. Also, the camera setup in the Redmi 9 is very practical and also has decent performance.

These two are the obvious highlights for me in the Redmi 9. Some of its additional specifications include its support for dual-SIMs. The Redmi 9 smartphone’s connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There is also a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor on the device.
