I have never had much patience for old, black and white films. I haven’t even watched more than three and that was only because I took a history of cinema class in college. Last weekend I decided to watch Casablanca because lately, I have been re-watching some old Suits episodes and in one of them there was a reference and of course I had heard about the movie and its classic status before, but never bothered to see it. I was surprised I actually liked it. I went into it expecting I would get bored after twenty to thirty minutes but I didn’t. It wasn’t even a slow movie like most old movies, in my experience, have been. The story was really nice, considering the year of release. Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart had such an amazing screen presence. I was especially bowled over by Ingrid Bergman’s beauty! She was one stunning actress.

But the story, and most importantly the reference-worthy dialogues were what made me really like the film. Of course there were some issues with continuity between some scenes and in certain acting aspects but that is to be accepted seeing as it’s such an old piece of cinema. Besides that, I think I’m going to re-watch this one a lot in the future, which is a first for me when it comes to black and white cinema.
