Weathering With You…
I had been putting off watching Weathering With You for the longest time. Not on purpose because I had wanted to watch it ever since I was introduced to Makoto Shinkai’s world of films. So I finally did last night and it was wonderful. I am not going to compare it with Kimi No Na Wa because let’s be honest, that film is incomparable. But this one stands on its own with a completely different story but the same magic of its creator. The visuals are to die for. I don’t even have enough adjectives to describe how beautiful the film looked.
The story is about two teenagers in Tokyo, and rain. Endless rain. Watching Shinkai’s animation bringing the city of Tokyo to life with the water splashed streets and people wading their way through it made me want to jump inside the screen. Do you ever feel like you could go inside a movie? This one made me feel like that. The music is very fitting and I have come to appreciate the partnership between Shinkai stories coupled with a Radwimps soundtrack. It’s one of those impeccable partnerships in art that can never go wrong. There’s also a couple of surprise elements which you would love if you have watched Your Name (Kimi No Na Wa). If you have watched previous Shinkai movies you’ll love this one too and if you haven’t it’s highly unlikely that you wouldn’t like this as well.
