It is one of the most discussed topics all across the world. People have their own understanding and based on that they believe one is better than the other. However, religion and science both exist in society for a significant amount and till now it is impossible to think of a world without any of them. Science and religion cannot coexist in any meaningful way. They have a significant disagreement about how we learn about the world. Science is founded on observation and deductive reasoning. Religion makes the supposition that people can have access to a greater level of knowledge that is not accessible by either observation or reason. These two topics have contradictions in almost every department which we will try to discuss further in the blog.

The Foundation: The very foundation of religion and science are not the same. Science is a consequence of human curiosity. The human brain naturally asks questions, based on which, people try to find answers. Science also has been working as a medium of communication between humans and nature. Whereas religion evolved as a social phenomenon. It was created to establish harmony and discipline among people. The fundamental objective of religion is to teach moral values and forward important lessons of life from one generation to another. These values were mustered by our ancestors in the form of stories and artworks so that any common individual can understand.

The Universe: The formation of the universe is a huge topic of debate. Science and religious explanations are very contradictory. Science says that the universe is a result of a massive explosion that led all matter to run apart and form several galaxies. In 2016, NASA discovered the oldest known galaxy named GN Z11 which is around 13.4 billion years old. Based on this discovery, scientists calculated that our universe was formed some 13.8 billion years ago.

On the other hand, religion has its own explanation. According to Vishnu Puran, which seems the most logical and rational discourse, the total age of the universe is 157.49 trillion years. It was formed by Brahma as per asked by Lord Vishnu. Brahma’s age is 100 years (which is way bigger than human years) and when he will complete his age, the universe will vanish. The Puran also talks about the multiverse which science has just started talking about.

Objectivity: The motif of science is to keep improving. It targets to be better than yesterday. This is why no definition or theory is permanent. The moment new findings are discovered, the older theory is corrected. This thing is missing in religion. Religion has rigidity which is bad for growth. It is important that with the growing years, belief systems and ideas should also improve. It helps us break the unnecessary shell and achieve bigger heights.

On the whole, we can say that science and religion, both are important for society but they cannot coexist. To answer the question of which one is better will not be a smart thing to do. Therefore, the best idea is to take important things from both branches and create your own theory. After all, the fundamental idea is to discover new things and try to achieve what is not achieved.
