Overpopulation and its Hazardous Consequences

Discussions regarding overpopulation can easily turn contentious since they raise issues like: Who exactly is the problem’s root cause and what, if anything, has to be done to address it? Many population experts are concerned that discussions about overpopulation will be used by narrow-minded individuals to portray some people as the “right people” to be on the planet (such as themselves) and other people as the “wrong people” (typically those who are poor, of a different race, foreigners, etc.) You get the idea. However, there are no “right” or “wrong” individuals on the earth, and talking about the issues associated with global overpopulation cannot ever serve as a justification for or a stage for having that type of discourse.

But we cannot deny that overpopulation is one of the root causes of several social, economic, and political issues in the country. We are crossing 140 crores which is a huge issue. Even though the country has all the resources, many people have to starve. Children are not getting a quality education, health workers are horrifyingly less in number, and people have to struggle for very basic things for survival. If we look at the underlying causes of overpopulation across the globe, we find a lack of women’s education, underutilized contraception, immature marriages, and lack of social responsibility.

Effects of overpopulation: We are already aware that the earth has limited natural resources and in the coming future, our generations will be struggling a lot to find tools for survival if we do not take charge now. Food, water, air, and minerals will become a factor of war. Population growth will unavoidably contribute to pressures that worsen climate change by increasing deforestation, reducing biodiversity, and increasing pollution and emissions. In the end, many scientists think that the additional stress on the planet will cause ecological disruption and collapse that is so severe that it threatens the viability of life on Earth as we know it unless we take action to help minimize further population growth going into the remainder of this century.

Possible Solution: It’s critical to empower people while organizing against anyone who supports the use of compulsion or violence to solve our problems when tackling overpopulation. The trajectory of the global population will be significantly changed by initiatives to dispel common misconceptions about contraception, increase women’s agency, and provide accurate information about family planning. Also, it is very important to spread awareness smartly. The knowledge should reach everyone. The school education system should incorporate this into their curriculum so that children can understand the issue and take the necessary steps when they grow old.
