New in the Market: Lava Z Series
Indian brands are slowly but steadily coming back in the smartphone market with full force. After the recent success of Micromax, now Lava is also trying to bank in on the momentum. The new Z series of the brand comprises Lava Z1, Z2, Z4 and Z6, all priced under 10k. The brand claims that the new range of smartphones are all made with military-grade endurance. The most interesting thing about this new series by Lava is the fact that the brand is giving users the ability to customise their smartphones through a new programme called My Z. This is a unique customisation programme which will allow buyers to pick and drop specifications on their phone as per their choice on select devices only.
Lava’s new ‘Made-to-Order’ concept for smartphones will enable users to even choose between 2GB, 3GB, 4GB, or 6GB RAM and then further mix it with 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB ROM in a combination solely of the individual’s choice. Additionally, the brand will also let you choose between a dual (13+2MP) or a triple rear camera (13+5+2MP), an 8MP or a 16MP selfie camera. You will also have the option to select the colour of your choice and make your very own version of Lava’s Z series. This is certainly a refreshing concept for Indian consumers. All of the smartphones in the series are powered by Mediatek processors.
The first in the series, Lava Z1 is priced at Rs 5,499, the Z2 is priced at Rs 6,999, the Z4 will cost you Rs 8,999 and finally, the Z6 will be worth Rs 9,999. The Lava Z2, Z4, Z6, and the customised MyZ smartphones will go on sale from January 11 when all of these smartphones will be available for purchase. The Lava Z1 and ZUp will be available for purchase from January 26 onwards. All of these devices can be bought from the brand’s online store plus other retail and offline outlets.
The Lava Z1 is a decent entry-level budget smartphone that features a 5-inch 720p display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top, which is a first for this price segment. The smartphone is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio A20 processor coupled with 2GB RAM. Additionally it has 16GB of on board storage capacity which can be further expanded using a microSD card. Coming to the optics- the Lava Z1 is packed with a 5MP rear and a 5MP front camera which is accompanied by the LED flash on the back of the device. There is also a 5-magnet loudspeaker that comes inside the phone which the brand claims will belt out loud audio. The Lava Z1 is backed by a 3100mAh battery with support for regular charging.
Next up is the Lava Z2. This one has 2GB of RAM with 32GB of internal. There is a 13MP+2MP dual-camera rear setup accompanied by an 8MP selfie camera. The Lava Z4 comes with 4GB RAM+64GB storage option. A triple camera setup consisting of a 13MP main camera, a 5MP secondary camera, and a 2MP tertiary camera sits on the back of the device; there is also a 16MP selfie shooter in the front. And finally, the Lava Z6. This one is the highest variant in the series in terms of storage, with 6GB RAM and 64GB in-built storage with the same triple rear camera setup (13MP+5MP+2MP) and a 16MP selfie camera.
