MediaTek to be one of the firsts to launch a 4-nm SoC
Technology is always expanding its spectrum and the market always has something new to offer. Now, the latest buzz is the likely evolution of mobile processors to a 4-nanometer process technology. Yes, it is happening, as the largest contract manufacturer TSMC plans in the third quarter of this year to start test production of processors based on the 4-nm process technology. One thing is absolutely certain that these new processors will showcase enhanced performance while reducing power consumption. And guess who might just become one of the first companies to introduce these 4nm SoCs? Why, MediaTek of course!
According to insiders, the Taiwanese chipmaker is likely to put out a flagship processor based on 4-nanometer technology in the first half of 2022. While TSMC will produce the chip, it is speculated to run the ARM v9 architecture and will include the latest Cortex-X2 and Cortex-A510 cores. Graphics accelerator Mali-G710, which became the successor to the Mali-G78, will likely be responsible for graphics processing. If these speculations are true, then MediaTek may roll out a true flagship processor next year. This all sounds really exciting as we could be getting a top-tier chipset as soon as six to seven month’s time. With the latest launch by MediaTek being the Dimensity 900, designed on a nm architecture, the company has for sure come a long way and since it started.
