MediaTek launches Dimensity 900
It’s always great to see Mediatek launching new processors, because that automatically means more accessible smartphones with impressive performance. The Dimensity range of chipsets especially have made 5G devices so much more accessible now. The newly launched processor is the Dimensity 900, which is the company’s latest 5G mobile SoC, and it is based on a 6nm architecture like the Dimensity 1100 and Dimensity 1200. The build and specs of the Dimensity 900 are looking impressive so it’ll be interesting to see it integrated with a smartphone to see the performance in real time.
The new SoC is a quad-core chip with third generation MediaTek APU AI. The Dimensity 900 has the integrated Arm Mali-G68 MC4 GPU for handling graphically intensive tasks, which will also make it pretty good for hardcore gaming sessions. The MediaTek Dimensity 900 is a successor to the MediaTek Dimensity 820 SoC that is based on 7nm architecture. I will also say that this new chipset is a pretty good upgrade from the older chip and brings quite a few improvements. In terms of camera support, the MediaTek Dimensity 900 can handle up to a single 108-megapixel sensor or two 20-megapixel sensors at 30fps. It has been designed for mid-range smartphones and there are a lot of talks regarding which smartphone will be the first to have the new processor.
