A lot of smartphones were launched last year. As this year has only just started, let us look back at two Indian smartphone brands that launched good devices last year. First of all obviously, there is Micromax. The company had a major comeback in the market last year. Launching two brand new smartphones under their In series. The In series was majorly to promote the made in India initiative and encourage consumers to buy Indian products over Chinese brands like Oppo and Realme which dominate the market.

Next I would say is Lava. Lava is also an Indian smartphone manufacturer and was founded in 2009. After brands like Oppo, Realme and Samsung gained so much popularity Indian brands like these were sidetracked. The Lava Z93 which was launched last year, is a pretty decent budget smartphone and comes with good features. The Lava Z93 smartphone was launched on 22nd August 2019 and it features a 6.22-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 720x1520 pixels at a pixel density of 295 pixels per inch (ppi). The smartphone also comes with an aspect ratio of 19:9. The price of the Lava Z93 starts at Rs. 8,349 in India. The phone is for the budget market and the price is really affordable. One more thing I have noticed is that people tend to quickly dismiss a budget smartphone without properly looking at the features, especially if it’s an Indian brand.

In terms of performance, the Lava Z93 looks to be a very well functioning smartphone and comes integrated with a 2GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P22 (MT6762) processor. This is coupled with 3GB of RAM. The smartphone also packs an inbuilt 32GB of storage capacity that can be further expanded up to 256GB using a microSD card. The Lava Z93 runs Star OS 5.1 based on Android Pie. The smartphone is powered by a 3500mAh battery. The battery I will admit could have been a lot better. All the other specs like the processor and RAM are decent enough considering the price tag, but the battery seems a bit lacklustre.

Now, let us take a look at the optics of the smartphone. As far as the cameras are concerned, the Lava Z93 features a dual camera setup at the back of the device and also boasts a solid selfie shooter in the front. The rear setup comprises a 13-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a second 2-megapixel camera. In the front of the smartphone there is an 8-megapixel selfie camera for the social media requirements.

The Lava Z93 is a dual-SIM smartphone that accepts Nano-SIM and Nano-SIM cards and comes with most of the basic connectivity options like all other smartphones in similar price range. These include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS, Bluetooth v4.10, USB OTG, and Micro-USB. The smartphone also features some sensors including a fingerprint sensor. The Lava Z93 smartphone comes in the distinct colour variants of Charcoal Blue and Royal Blue while measuring 156.60 x 75.20 x 8.40mm (height x width x thickness) and weighing 159.20 grams. Overall, I would say a budget phone worth considering.
