I have been reading about the JBL Link Music smart home speakers for some time and I was finally convinced to purchase it. The smart speaker is an amazing music system as well as being a fully supportive home assistant. It is also very affordable and does well on the music front. The sound quality of the system is pretty great and you can listen to it on high volumes with hardly any distortion or shrillness. The JBL Link Music is priced at Rs 9,120 which is very affordable and doesn’t hurt your pocket much at all.

In terms of dimensions of the speaker, it measures 5.3 by 4.4 inches. In design terms the speaker is a boxy built in shape but sort of rounded at the corners and it is wrapped in a textured speaker cloth which is black or gray and is acoustically neutral. The speaker design blends in with any décor and is not very loud in colours but muted and in dark and light. There is a row of LEDs which blink on the front when you wake the device up with a “Hey Google” command. There are plus/minus buttons on the speaker’s rubbery top that control the volume. Mounted in the centre is the Google Assistant button that controls all playback and alarms and timers. The bottom of the device is rubberized and keeps it from sliding across surfaces even when especially thumping music is playing.

The Link Music smart speaker comes with support for Bluetooth, Chromecast, AirPlay 2, and Google Assistant voice commands. The JBL Link Music runs on the Google Home platform and if you are looking to upgrade from your Google Home Mini this is the way to go for that. It connects wirelessly to a home network via dual-band Wi-Fi (802.11ac) and takes cues from an iOS 11.0+ or Android OS 5.0+ app, and from Google Assistant-aided voice commands. The chip solution inside the device is of the Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek. MediaTek’s prowess and reliability in terms of voice assistant devices (VAD) is completely wholesome and unbeatable to be honest.

The speaker is designed to offer a lot more than just music, internet radio, news and podcasts. All these musical aspects are obviously while foremost, are not only limited to. Apart from these tasks, the JBL Link Music is also a pretty competent home assistant and you can ask the Google Assistant any bit of curiosity, to find out a recipe you want to try, or if you have other smart home tid-bits, the speaker can easily be asked to lock doors, open taps and put on the television and other such stuff. The JBL Link Music introduced as a smart speaker device integrated with the Google Assistant is the best option if you’re looking for a device which not only plays music on high volumes but also acts as your personal assistant. This device is a great alternative to the Google Home Mini and if you’re looking for an upgrade, go for it.

In terms of pricing, although the Link Music is an entry-level model in JBL’s smart speaker line, it does not, however compromise in terms of sonic performance and gives a very smooth and satisfying music experience. I have used JBL speakers and headphones previously and have loved them for their audio quality. This one also doesn’t disappoint at all. At such an incredible budget, this is a very good deal that you can get. Stellar music champ!
