Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind…
I watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind last week, after months and months of putting it off. The funniest part was that I had the movie on my computer offline for a long time and still I went on Netflix to watch it. OTTs have ruined us!
Anyway, let’s talk about the movie now. I liked it, I liked it a lot but I wasn’t as blown away by it as I thought I would. Maybe that was because it had been hyped up too much for me already that my expectations were something very unreasonable? I do not know. The story was good, I mostly loved the camera movements throughout the movie, they were very marked and clearly let us know when it was the real world and when we were in Jim Carrey’s memories. This brings me to Jim Carrey. Easily, the best thing about this movie was his performance! Most of us have only ever seen him being a comedic genius in movies like The Mask, Liar Liar, and Bruce Almighty. But in this movie there is none of that. He doesn’t pull funny faces, and there is no green face. He plays a very normal dude who is struggling with life the way most of us do and he’s amazing and truly convincing. It was great to see him do something so different from his usual roles.
Bottom line: The movie was good, not extraordinary to be honest, but really good still.
