The comparisons between Mediatek and Qualcomm seem to be incessant. There are always people comparing the two brands and their chipsets non-stop and this has only increased through the years. As Mediatek launched the new Mediatek Dimensity 1000 plus under its 5G Dimensity series, comparisons have been constant between the two leading chipmakers in the market. The Mediatek Dimensity 1000 Plus and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 are the two chipsets that have been compared the most since they belong to a somewhat similar price range. However, there are multiple factors to consider before concluding which is ultimately a better processor overall.

When it comes to architecture, both MediaTek Dimensity 1000 Plus and Snapdragon 855 are octa-core in structure and have a size of 7nm. When it comes to the CPU clock speed, the Snapdragon chipset is clocked at 2.84GHz, while the Mediatek chipset comes around to 2.6GHz. However, what people try to ignore is the fact that Mediatek Dimensity 1000 Plus has an almost 7 percent better CPU clock speed overall compared to the Snapdragon chipset. So, while the MediaTek chipset is clocked at 4 x 2.6GHz & 4 x 2GHz, Snapdragon 855 has a CPU clock speed of 1 x 2.84 & 3 x 2.42 & 4 x 1.78GHz. The MediaTek Dimensity 1000 Plus features the world’s first 4 Big core Cortex-A77 CPU. These specifications help the chipset in delivering powerful performance, during regular multitasking as well as gaming. When it comes to gaming, Mediatek’s in-house HyperEngine gaming technology offers stunning performance and gives a seamless support overall, while the Snapdragon 855 does not have any additional gaming technology.

In terms of RAM specifications, both the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 Plus and the Snapdragon 855 chipsets are quite similar. Both of them have LPDDR4X type RAM and both are clocked at a similar speed of 2133MHz. Both of the processors also support maximum memory of 16GB each. So, in this regard both the Snapdragon and Mediatek chipsets have similar technical specs. One major aspect to note among these comparisons is the fact that the Snapdragon 855 is an older chipset than the Mediatek Dimensity 1000 Plus. And because of this, the Dimensity processor from Mediatek has an obvious edge over its Snapdragon contemporary when it comes to connectivity.

Connectivity options are foremost when it comes to a good smartphone processor because the most rudimentary requirement for any smartphone is good connectivity. Although both these chipsets support wi-fi 6, the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 Plus can support a better Bluetooth version. Besides, the MediaTek chipset also comes with a much better support for upload and download speed than the Snapdragon 855. The upload speed is more than 7 times better, and the chipset also supports more than twice the maximum download speed of the Snapdragon 855 processor.

Also, the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 Plus is lauded for having an integrated 5G modem which poses a great advantage over its competitor, Snapdragon that lacks this feature. Since the Snapdragon processor is older, it now belongs to a similar price range as the Dimensity chipset. However, the Mediatek Dimensity 1000 plus is obviously the better choice seeing as it is newer and more upgraded than the Snapdragon chipset.
