This week has been a bit exhausting on the work front. So exhausting that I am choosing to write about it before it’s over. But yes, it has been exhausting and I have mentioned it thrice in three sentences already, so you could tell how really exhausted I am. Four times.

But I tend to re-watch movies that I already love during tough times. So, I re-watched Dear Zindagi this week and I’m really happy that I did. It’s very rare to find commercially successful Bollywood movies that have substance as well as a good story. Gauri Shinde is a breath of fresh air in the industry and I really admire her work. Even though she has only made two feature films till now, and I love both, I wish she would make more.

Dear Zindagi in particular, is a movie that deals with a tough and untalked about subject matter, mental health, in our society and makes it into a very palatable piece of art that a regular audience of Bollywood movies will also enjoy and take away something from. These are the types of movies that we need more of in India and it’s good to see so many new writers like Shinde are using their art to give us something that’s not just enjoyable but also important.
