Boat Rockerz 400: Yay or Nay?

I have been using the Boat Rockerz 400 for a little over a year now and it is a really good headset for a very reasonable price. The Boat Rockerz 400 is available in four colour options of Carbon Black, Black/ Red, Black/ Blue, and Grey/ Green and it is priced at Rs. 1,499.

Apart from the Carbon Black variant, all the other options have a two-tone finish. The earcups of the headset have Boat logos on them and the headband cushion is a great addition to this model that provides a comfortable listening experience. The right earcup has three buttons. The center button is for play/ pause as well as to power these headphones on. The other two buttons are for skipping to the next track or the previous track and controlling the volume. The left earcup only has the microphone. The slide bar for the headband is made out of metal. It is also obvious looking at the headphones that it has been built to a cost. There is a Micro-USB port for charging these headphones and an LED light that blinks blue in measured intervals when the headphones are paired to a device. Also when charging, the same LED glows red. Next to the Micro-USB charging port there is an auxiliary input which you can use to connect these headphones to a source with an aux cable. This is most useful when the battery runs out and you need to plug it in your phone to use without Bluetooth.

Scrutinising a bit more on the design, the ear cushions of the headphones are made out of cloth which makes it very comfortable to wear for long durations. The Boat Rockerz 400 weighs 110g which is light and ideal with the headband having enough clamping force to stay in place. Now coming to the battery of the device, the headset has a 250mAh battery and a claimed battery life of 8 hours which easily lasts an hour or so more than that. The charging time claimed by the manufacturer is 2 hours, and the headphones take nearly that much to get charged fully.

The Boat Rockerz 400 headset has 40mm drivers with 32 Ohms impedance ratings and a frequency response range of 20Hz-20KHz. For the price, the Rockerz 400 delivers a pretty good audio quality albeit at higher volumes it might shriek a bit which is acceptable for such a reasonable headphone. If you are a casual listener with rare bass heavy music as your go-to, this headphone is perfect for you. These headphones have a decent amount of bass and mids but the highs do sound shrill at higher volumes. It is advisable to use these headphones at 80 percent volume since the highs were manageable up to this point. The controls are sort of inverted. Long-pressing the track skip/ repeat buttons changes the volume on the headset while a short-press changes the track, which could get some getting used to initially. Overall, I am pretty satisfied with the product as it is affordable plus gives a decent audio quality for a regular user.
